Paralamyctes validus

Chilopoda
Henicopidae

Widespread in the southern portion of the North Island and much of the South Island. It tends to be in the drier, forested sites and is not tolerant of human modification of the environment. Is is slightly smaller than the introduced Lithobius forficatus and behaves and looks very similar. That species has multiple eyes on each side whereas P. validus has only a single pair.
