An abundant species in the North Island. One of the dominant species within Pinus plantations of the Kaiangaroa Plains. It has also appeared in the pine plantation on Rabbit Island, Nelson, a site close to known localities of O. nesobia and O. nitidula. Perhaps this is due to transportation of soil from the north with the seedling pines.
