Odontria species

Scarabaeidae  : Melolonthinae

Thirtyseven species of Odontria are presently recognised and several available names are considered synonyms.. However, at least two of those synonyms (O. piciceps and O. epomeas) should be considered good species.

It also highly likely that many specimens have been misidentified, especially from photographs on web-sites. In the Auckland area the species O. xanthosticta, O. piciceps,< i>O. borealis and possibly O. albonotata have been confused. There are also at least 12 species for which there is no name. The presumed variation in O. striata in Canterbury may be due to two species being included under the one name.
