A widespread species in the North Island and at least the northern portion of the South Is. However, recent revision has separated N. parryi from a new species N. garneri. The latter is found mainly within the mountains of the Main Divide in the South Island and there may well be confusion in identifying those specimens from close to the Divide in the Lewis Pass region and Westland. The collection on which this website is mainly based has yet to be reassessed and others are not yet added, so some records and their sites may well be of N garneri.
