Most
Megadromus species do not cross the Great Alpine fault and three species that do lie only to the west and north form a relatively close group:
Megadromus vigil,
Megadromus speciosus,
Megadromus turgidiceps and this species. It is found in the dense forests of northern Westland and northwest Nelson and is predominantly associated with
Nothofagus. Nothing is known about its biology as it is seldom found.
