A rare, dryland species in the loess soils of Marlborough south-east of the Alpine fault (compare Megadromus speciosus) . The is no information on the area between it and its neighbour Megadromus wallacei although the two species have very dissimiilar habitats. It shares its habitat with Holcaspis tripunctata.
