Megadromus alternus

Coleoptera
Carabidae  : Harpalinae  : Pterostichini

A species found only in the Mackenzie Basin but is far more widespread there than the other local endemic Megadromus omaramae. It also occurs in a wide variety of vegetation types: from dry Nothofagus forest, through matagouri-Aciphylla shrubland on very stony soils to old tussock on loess. It is not tolerant of the results of intensive farming practices which are becoming very extensive in the Basin.
