Lithobius peregrinus

Chilopoda
Lithobiidae

Though found in many parts of the World this tramp species originates in the eastern portion of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. It probabably got to England about the same time as here (?1980's). It is now widespread in the North Island and present in Nelson and Christchurch. It is easily confused with the even more widespread Lithobius forficatus. The two species have occasionally been taken at the same site. A microscope is needed to distinguish them.
