One of the marine craneflies and found on exposed shores throughout the North Island but restricted further south the Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura, Nelson and Westland to Fiordland. It is also on the Chathams. There is a record from Motunau lsland, Canterbury but as yet none on the coastline from the Peninsula to Bluff. This gap is most puzzling coonsidering its presence on other parts of the South Island
