The genus Eumastigonus has at least 30 species, for which there are only 11 names available and some of these are certainly synonyms. All but one of the known species were collected in the North Island, and the unrecognised Eumastigonus striatus is from Dunedin. These millipedes are now being reviewed. Present collections comprise about 2000 samples of which the sites for those so far identified are shown on the distribution map.
