A subalpine to alpine cockroach known so far from the eastern mountains of Canterbury north of the Rakaia, and southern Marlborough. It is often abundant along the margins of rock screes. It is not closely related to the other alpine species Celatoblatta quinquemaculata of Otago but close relatives are Celatoblatta sedilloti of the North Island and Celatoblatta subcorticaria of South Island forests.
